August Update 2025
The club is hosting an Active Living Through Volunteerism workshop on Thursday, September 11 from 9:00 to 2:15. This event is a great way to learn about local volunteer opportunities and requirements, as well as tips to help you prepare your volunteer profile. Presentations include:
The Grove Theatre, Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes, Fenelon Falls Food Bank/Salvation Army, Community Care of Kawartha Lakes and Fenelon Court. Exhibitors from more than 9 organizations will also be present. A yoga movement break, refreshments and catered lunch are included. The cost is $5 for club members and $10 for all others. Pre-registration by Tues. Sept. 9 at noon is required as spaces are limited.
A new activity, Chair Yoga, will begin Friday, September 12, 1-2. The first session is free and $10/session thereafter. Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga practiced sitting in a chair or standing while using the chair for support. It’s ideal for older adults and anyone who wants to improve flexibility, circulation, balance, and mobility — all without needing to get down on the floor. Tanya Willis, the instructor, has been teaching health and fitness classes since 1988, personal training since 1993, and coaching nutrition since 2010. She fully understands the needs of seniors. You can meet Tanya if you attend the September 11 Healthy Aging Workshop as she will be leading the fitness break. Pre-register by contacting the club or sign-up at the workshop.
A Food Handler Certification Course is being offered at the club on September 25, 9-4. This course is great for general knowledge of handling and preparing food or if you are involved in handling food as a volunteer, or as a part of your employment.
This year's Fall Into Christmas Craft Show is being held at the club on November 1, 10-3. There are still a few vendor tables left - $30 for club members and $40 for non-member. Contact the club if you are interested in a vendor's table.
The next Toonie Trivia is on August 28, 2-4. It is a great chance to meet new friends, laugh a lot and exercise those brain cells at the same time.
I hope you will find these special events/activities of interest and manage to attend all or some of them along with our many regular club activities. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your summer.
